How retail security reduces loss
Shoplifting and staff abuse are serious problems for UK retailers. A visible, well-trained officer changes behaviour the moment someone walks in: opportunist thieves move on, and staff feel safer dealing with difficult customers.
- Uniformed retail officers stand at entrances, greet customers, watch high-value areas and respond to tag alarms.
- Store detectives work in plain clothes, observe suspicious behaviour and gather the evidence needed to deal with theft properly.
- CCTV support through our CCTV operators helps track suspects and supports police reports.
Shops and centres we protect
High-street stores, supermarkets and convenience stores, fashion and electronics retailers, pharmacies, shopping centres and retail parks, plus pop-up shops and seasonal sales. For centres with car parks and service yards we combine retail officers with static guards and patrols.
Uniformed officer or store detective?
| Option | Main purpose | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Uniformed retail officer | Deterrence and customer reassurance | Stores with frequent opportunist theft or staff abuse |
| Store detective | Detection and evidence gathering | Organised or repeat theft, high-value stock |
| Both together | Deter at the door, detect on the floor | Large stores and shopping centres |
Protecting your staff
Violence and abuse against shop workers is a growing concern. Our officers are trained in conflict management, so they can calm a heated situation before it escalates, support staff during refusals and record incidents accurately for your records and the police.

Retail Security FAQs
Can a security guard stop a shoplifter?
Officers act within the law, including the powers available to any member of the public under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. Our officers are trained on when and how to act safely, and to prioritise staff and customer safety.
Do retail officers need an SIA licence?
Yes. Contracted retail security officers carry out licensable guarding activity and need an SIA licence. All our retail officers are licensed.
Can you supply officers just for Christmas?
Yes. Many retailers book extra officers for Black Friday, Christmas and the January sales. Contact us early so we can plan the rota.
Will your officers fit our brand image?
Yes. Our retail officers are smartly presented and customer focused, and can follow your dress and conduct guidelines.
